Intentional

This month we start registration for Relay Exchange groups for the 2022-23 school year. We love this season of connecting with existing group leaders and coaching new groups as they form! We love the potential for life change and growth that this season represents. In 2007, we started the very first Relay Exchange group with a vision to create a way to engage our girls and demonstrate our daily faith in a way that is intentional, sustainable, and relational. These three words sum up the heart of the program.

Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 have become a pivotal truth for us as we seek to encourage women to be intentional about passing along their faith to the next generation:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Paul says he is running his race in a way that he has a shot at winning, and he is encouraging all of us to run to win, envisioning eternity as our prize. Running to win requires training, discipline and intentionality. Running to win means having a game plan. Parents need a game plan to follow as they pass along their faith to the next generation. A game plan, even the best and most well executed game plan, won’t ensure the baton won’t be dropped, but we as parents are to do all we can to run to win, leaving the outcome in God’s hands.

We believe such a game plan for passing along our faith to the next generation must be tangible, and not merely aspirational. It must be doable and it must be sustainable. It must be appealing to both generations. It must involve community and it will require a commitment. This game plan must include regular deposits of time and attention over a long period of time. This is a marathon, not a sprint! This game plan must involve both parent and child growing spiritually, learning the truth from Scripture in ways that are both compelling and relevant. This game plan must include a clear avenue for application of what is learned so that we are living out truth in our actions every day, and so are our children.

Relay Exchange provides a game plan for mothers to pass the baton of faith to their daughters with intentionality.. It is a measurable, doable, sustainable, appealing program that stretches over eight years. It involves community. It engages both generations and it is fun. It is steeped in truth from Scripture and it points members to Jesus. It is a Spirit filled, practical way to be intentional about raising up the next generation of Christian women leaders, and we want to get it into the hands of any mother seeking a way to pass along her faith to the next generation.
